Freak Accident on the Hannah Montana Movie Set

Extras and crew had a bit of a scare Tuesday on the Tennessee set of “Hannah Montana: The Movie” when a piece of production equipment was blown onto a ferris wheel full of extras.

The accident produced no serious injuries, Disney said in a statement. The company said “a minor accident” which occurred during a break in filming caused only “minor injuries” and that the extras hurt had received immediate medical attention. None of the cast was on the set according to Disney.

TMZ.com, which first reported the incident, said star Miley Cyrus had just finished filming a scene next to the ferris wheel when the naughty gust of wind caused the damage.

One of the extras, Brenda Blackford, told Nashville station WKRN-TV that “when the wind caught it, all the cables were loose.”

The loose cables reportedly struck several of the people on the ride. There was no need though for emergency personnel or law enforcement to be called on the scene.

Miley Cyrus has been filming alongside dad Billy Ray Cyrus for about a week. Neither was on set when the incident occurred.

It is the first feature film based on Disney’s hugely popular television series “Hannah Montana.” It also features series regulars Emily Osment, Jason Earles, Mitchel Musso and Moises Aria.

Peter Chelson is directing from a script by Dan Berendsen. The film is scheduled for a spring 2009 release.

Others joining the usual gang are Melora Hardin, Margo Martindale, Barry Bostwick, Peter Gunn, Lucas Till and Vanessa Williams.

The “Hannah Montana” franchise warmed up this spring with the 3-D release of “Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour,” comprising concert footage and behind-the-scenes clips from Miley Cyrus’ 2007 sell-out Best of Both Worlds Tour. It earned $65.3 million at the box office.

The teen pop sensation is also preparing to release her first full-length album, “Breakout,” under her own name on July 22. Miley’s previous two albums were released under her Disney moniker, “Hannah Montana.”
